The original family name was Nielsen, but it was changed when Luvig and Jennie entered the United States, circa 1895-1897, more than likely the result of immigration practices at Ellis Island, New York. All the children were born in Brooklyn. At some point after the children were born, Luvig left the family, and no one knew of his whereabouts thereafter.
